Best Bathroom Facelift: Choose A New Bathtub

One of the best thing you can do to improve looks of aging bathrooms is to install a new bathtub. But since this kind of remodeling is something you may not to do very often, you better spend a good amount of time searching for the most perfect bathtub model for this occasion.

One of the first factors to consider is where the bathtub will be positioned. If your bathroom has small proportions, you can consider purchasing a corner unit which will occupy considerably less space. Large size bathrooms have more room to play with and can use that space to look very impressive with a vintage style tub positioned in the center and away from the walls.

The second most important thing to consider is its intended use. Is it for decoration or do you want to have a tub in which you can relax? Those wanting the latter have a number of choices starting from over-sized Roman deep soaking to whirlpool jet tubs that can provide massage therapy as well.

Important to note here is that there are two basic types of whirlpool jet tubs, cast iron and acrylic ones. Cast iron tubs may last you forever, but they will require a considerable amount of maintenance and their weights may not be suitable for the type of flooring you have in your bathroom. On the other hand, acrylic tubs are very popular because they are easy to handle and maneuver during installation, and do not require extra bathroom floor support. Also, unlike iron, acrylic is warm to the touch and easy to scrub.

Another interesting trend has been developing with the aging population and that is walk-in bathtubs. They are made with acrylic and with armrests and lumbar support to offer a safe way to walk in and out of your tub. Water does not leak as the doors are sealed when they are closed. Many of them also provide hydrotherapy through the use of jet streams.

Another important issue to consider when purchasing a bathtub is a size and capacity of a water heater which may not be suitable for filling over-sized tubs.

So, whichever way you decide to go, it is smart to first spend some time considering all your options.
